Many high street banks ask for proof of UK residence when opening a new bank account, which can be a bit tricky if you live and work overseas. Having a UK bank account can be pretty handy if you have business in the UK, though. So what are your options?
Banking in the UK from abroad
Some banks offer products allowing non-uk residents to open an account which can be used for UK income and expenses. Barclays, for instance, have an International Bank Account which can be operated in dollars, sterling, or euros, as needed, which can be held in the UK, Jersey, or the Isle of Man.
Online banking with the challenger banks
Online banking is available from the big high-street banks, but the ongoing rise in digital-only banks can offer more flexibility here. With no physical high-street presence, digital bank accounts can be set up from wherever you are, in whatever currency is needed.
